This aria is from the opera Dido and Aeneas by English Baroque composer Henry Purcell. It is based on the mythological story of Dido, Queen of Carthage and the Trojan prince Aeneas. The good thing is that the despair felt at his abandonment led to the creation of this sublime melody.
